An evening at Hora Farm, Hvar

Our favourite part of our entire Medsailors trip was the evening that we visited Hora Farm on the island of Hvar.

We left our mooring in Vrboska and took a bus to Hora Farm, on the Stari Grad Plain. At Hora Farm they produce everything themselves – from the olive oil, herbs and vegetables to their own wines. So, we were in for a fantastic evening of wine tasting and delicious organic food.

We were greeted with a welcome drink of honey brandy, homemade at the farm. It was possibly one of the most delicious drinks we’ve ever tasted!

We then took our seats and worked our way through the wine tasting, starting with a white, then a rose, and ending with a red (my favourite).

Zivjeli! (That’s cheers in Croatian)

We started off the food with some freshly baked bread and three dipping oils – a normal olive oil, an extra virgin olive oil and an olive oil with herbs. All three were delicious, and dipping bread in olive oil is something I always love, but the oil with herbs was especially nice!

Next up was some more produce from the farm – two types of anchovies, a cheese and some salami. All of which were very tasty – of course – particularly the anchovies!

The views over Start Grad Plain from the farm were beautiful, and enjoying the food and wine while the sun was setting made the evening all the more enjoyable.

While we waited for our main course, we headed out to the farm to meet the chickens – because what else would one do while on a farm?

Our main course arrived, with slow cooked lamb with salad, vegetables and potatoes for most of our party – which looked very tasty!

I opted for the grilled sea bass, served with salad and grilled vegetables, which was really, really good.

We had such a good evening at Hora Farm with the guys from our boat – a great way to (almost) end our trip! We came home with a bottle of their red wine and a bottle of the honey brandy – which we cracked open last night, and it is truly delicious!
